Dho Young-shim, UN SDGs Advocate and Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF) organized a special program on Nov. 16, 2018 for Dr. Belay Begashaw, Director-General of the Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa, in South Korea, on the occasion of his visit in South Korea.
The program included meetings with Mrs. Mi-kyung Lee, President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency – KOICA, Mr. Lee Ju-young, Deputy-Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, and African Ambassadors in Korea invited at the Korean National Assembly, and a visit of Samsung Innovation Museum in Suwon city. Dr. Bellay provided updates on the two projects in Africa supported by KOICA, for which an MoU was signed between the SDG Center for Africa and Amb. Dho.

PATA Annual World Travel Market Session 2018 on North Korea as an Emerging Destination - London11/7/2018 PATA Annual World Travel Market Session 2018 took place on Nov. 7, 2018 at the Asia Inspiration Zone of ExCeL London, under the theme “Redefining the Travel Experience, A Viewpoint from Asia and China”.
This session included a presentation on “Introducing a Future Emerging Market: the Potential for DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea)”, by Phil Haines, Travel Writer and commentator. Amb. Dho Young-shim, UN SDGs Advocate and Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF), attended the session as Special Advisor for PATA. On Nov. 6th, 2018, Amb. Dho Young-shim, UN SDGs Advocate and Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF) visited the headquarters of the Varkey Foundation in London.
The Varkey Foundation is a global charitable foundation focused on improving the standards of education for underprivileged children. It was formed in 2010 by Indian businessman Sunny Varkey, the founder and chairman of GEMS Education, the world's largest operator of kindergarten-to-grade-12 schools. The foundation's main focuses are improving global teacher capacity by training tens of thousands of teachers and principals in developing countries; providing access to education via a variety of programmes and projects; and advocating for change in, and conducting research that can help develop, education policies worldwide. Amb. Dho Young-shim, UN SDGs Advocate and Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF) attended the 2018 World Travel Market in London, from Nov. 5 to 7, 2018, together with Dr. Mario Hardy, CEO of the Pacific Asia Travel Agency – PATA, as Special Advisor for PATA.
Together, they visited the booths of HanaTour, South Korea’s major travel agency, and the Korea Tourism Organization. On the occasion of a business trip to London to attend the World Travel Market 2018, Amb. Dho Young-shim, UN SDGs Advocate and Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF), had several meetings with key stakeholders, including Ms. Gloria Guevara Manzo, WTTC President & CEO, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Palau First Lady, as well as a representative of Pitch@Palace, an initiative founded by The Duke of York to support entrepreneurs with the amplification and acceleration of their business ideas. Pitch@Palace does this by connecting some of the most innovative start-up business in the country with potential investors and supporters, including angels, mentors and key business contacts. The inaugural meeting of the Board of Governors and Associates of the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre took place in London on Nov. 4, 2018. Amb. Dho Young-shim, UN SDGs Advocate and Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF) attended this meeting as Board Member.
The meeting was chaired by former United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary General, Dr Taleb Rifai, who has committed to serving as Chairman pro tem, with Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Edmund Bartlett serving as co-chair. The mission of the Global Tourism Resilience & Crisis Management Centre is to carry out policy-relevant research and analysis on destination preparedness, management and recovery from disruptions or crises that impact tourism and threaten economies and livelihoods globally. The Centre, which will be headquarted in Montego Bay, Jamaica, offcially launched in January 2019. Amb. Dho Young-shim, UN SDGs Advocate and Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF) had a meeting at the headquarters of the Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, established and chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser of Qatar, UN SDGs Advocate, and Founder and Chair of the EAA Foundation. Amb. Dho took this opportunity to promote the UN SDGs Ball, a awareness-raising and educational initiative led by Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg, co-Chair of the UN SDGs Advocacy Group. The EAA Fundation announced this year that 10 million children, living in the most dreadful environments around the world, would be enrolled and educated in accordance with EAA’s commitments in 2012, through the Educate A Child (EAC) programme.
