Amb. DHO Young-shim, Chairperson of International Charity Foundation (ICF) participated in the Hello Friends program initiated by ICF. Through Hello Friends, US Soldiers from the United States Army Garrison-Humphreys (USAG-H) in Pyeongtaek area have the opportunity to volunteer through teaching English to Korean kids with multicultural backgrounds, whose families cannot afford to pay for private lessons fees, within the framework of BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) initiative offering various volunteering opportunities an recreational trips to underprivileged soldiers.

Located within the seaport city of Pyeongtaek, along the western coast of South Korea, and approximately 40 miles south of Seoul, Camp Humphreys is home to the Army's most active airfield in the Pacific and the center of the largest construction and transformation project in the U.S. Department of Defense's history. Amb. DHO Young-shim, Chairperson of the UN SDGs Advocates Alumni and Chair of ISTO - International Travel & Sports Organization for Peace and Prosperity, attended the 2019 Vatican Youth Symposium on October 16 under the theme Intergenerational Leadership: Laudato Si’ and the Sustainable Development Goals, at Casina Pio IV in Vatca, City.
In particular, she was one of the panelists of the opening session of the Symposium, aimed at looking at the role of youth leadership in instilling the SDGs, the Paris Climate Agreement, and Laudato Si’ around the world. Other panelists included Monsignor Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (PAS), Professor Jeffrey Sachs Director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), Special Advisor on SDG’s to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Professor Lorenzo Fioramonti, Minister for Education, Universities and Research, Graça Machel, Founder of The Graça Machel Trust, and Siamak Sam Loni, Founder of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network - Youth. On the occasion of their visit to the Republic of Korea, the Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew HOLNESS and Minister of Tourism Edmund BARTLETT had several meetings together with Amb. DHO Young-shim.
During the meeting with H.E. BAN Ki-moon, former UN Secretary-General, tourism resilience was discussed as well as the importance of tourism for developing countries especially in Africa, as a powerful tool contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Prime Minister Holness and Minister Bartlett were also received by a Korean University specialized in K-Pop and Taekwondo. |
