Meeting with the Uganda Delegation at the 74th United Nations General Assembly in New-York9/24/2019 Amb. DHO Young-shim attended the 74th Session of the United Nations General-Assembly (UNGA74) in New-York as Chair of the UN SDGs Advocates Alumni and former Chairperson of the UNWTO ST-EP Foundation.
She had a meeting with the Ugandan delegation and mentioned about the Millennium Villages as Tourism Destinations Project that has been supported by the ST-EP Foundation in Uganda in order to empower local communities through the development of sustainable tourism activities. A report on the MVTD activities in Uganda was remitted to Amb. DHO, together with a UN SDGs song produced by the beneficiaries of the project.

Meeting with the CEO of Roger Federer Foundation 74th United Nations General Assembly in New-York9/23/2019 Amb. DHO Young-shim attended the 74th Session of the United Nations General-Assembly (UNGA74) in New-York as Chair of the UN SDGs Advocates Alumni, and had an opportunity to discuss with Ms. Janine Händel, CEO of the Roger Federer Foundation headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
Established in 2008, the Roger Federer Foundation supports educational projects located in the region of southern Africa and Switzerland. The programmes on the African continent focus on the improvement of the quality of early learning and basic education and in Switzerland on the promotion of extra-curricular activities for children affected by poverty. All activities are realized and implemented by local non-governmental authorities in close collaboration with the local communities. As of today 309,000 children have been empowered through the Foundation, including 97,570 in Malawi. Amb. DHO Young-shim attended the 74th Session of the United Nations General-Assembly (UNGA74) in New-York as Chair of the UN SDGs Advocates Alumni.
Appointed by the UN Secretary-General, the SDG Advocates are 17 inspiring, influential people raising global awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the need for accelerated action. They use their unique global platforms to raise ambition around the SDGs and reach the most vulnerable first. SDG Advocates are strong public figures dedicated to peace, prosperity and the planet, rallying behind the vision of a better world and inspiring others to do the same. The 23rd General-Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) took place on September 9-13, 2019 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, and included the 111th session of the UNWTO Executive Council.
On that occasion, Amb. DHO Young-shim, former Chairperson of the UNWTO ST-EP Foundation and Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF), had several meetings on that occasion, including with the Hon. Minister Najib Balala, Minister of Tourism of Kenya, who was elected Chair of the UNWTO Executive Council. Amb. DHO was also in Russia in preparation of the 2020 Forum of the World Association for Tourism and Hospitality Training and Education – AMFORHT to be hosted in Seoul, South Korea, in May 19-22, 2020. Meeting with Russian AMFORHT Delegate 23rd UNWTO General-Assembly in Saint-Petersburg, Russia9/12/2019 In preparation of the 2020 Forum of the World Association for Tourism and Hospitality Training and Education – AMFORHT to be hosted in Seoul, South Korea, in May 19-22, 2020, Amb. DHO Young-shim, Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation (ICF) had a meeting with Dr. Denis CHISTAKOV, Deputy Director for Science of the Hotel Business and Tourism Institute - RUDN, an AMFORHT Member in Russia.
The meeting took place on Sept. 12, 2019, during the 23rd General-Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Among many subjects, Amb. DHO and Dr. CHISTAKOV not only evoked the participation of a Russian delegation in the 2020 AMFORHT World Forum in Seoul, but also the upcoming 2020 AMFORHT Conference organized by RUDN in Moscow, Russia, under the theme “Development of competences for hospitality industry in university environment” in January 2020. |
