At the 6th Mediterranean Tourism Forum in the Republic of Malta held in February 2019, Amb. DHO Young-shim, Chairperson of ICF, introduced the idea of establishing the International Sports and Tourism Organization for Peace & Prosperity (ISTO for P&P) to H.E. Mrs. Elena Kountoura, Minister of Tourism of Greece, who receives it positively. Dr. Taleb RIFAI, former UNWTO Secretary-General, was also present. Back in Korea, Amb. DHO sent the draft agreement for the establishment of ISTO for P&P to Minister KOUNTOURA on Feb. 18, 2019.
On April 10, 2019 the foundational document of ISO for P&P were signed in Beirut, Lebanon by the foreign ministers of Greece, Cyprus and Lebanon, George Katrougalos, Nikos Christodoulides, and Gebran Bassil, and Minister of Tourism Kountoura, her Lebanese counterpart Avedis Guidanian and Cyprus Deputy Tourism Minister Savvas Perdios. On April 22, 2019, the inaugural ceremony for the establishment of International Sports & Tourism Organization for Peace & Prosperity (ISTO for P&P) took place in Athens, Greece. The ISTO for P&P Preparatory Provisions Committee is composed of: Chairperson: Dho Young-shim, former Chairperson of UNWTO ST-EP Foundation – Republic of Korea; Vice-President: Taleb Rifai, former UNWTO Secretary-General – Jordan; Vice-President: Elena Kountoura, Minister of Tourism – Greece; Member: Rania A. Al-Mashkat, Minister of Tourism – Egypt; Member: Nikolina Angelkova, Minister of Tourism – Bulgaria; Member: Avedis Guidaniuan, Minister of Tourism – Lebanon; Member: Savvas Perdios, First Deputy Minister of Tourism – Cyprus; Member: Ana Mendes Godinho, Minister of Tourism – Portugal (or the Sports Minister); Two World Renowned Sports Personalities as Members.

On April 8, 2019, Amb. DHO Young-shim, Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation, and UN SDGs Alumni attended the 25th Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda (KWIBUKA25) at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
The ceremony included remarks by: H.E. Mr. BAN Ki-moon, 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, as a friend of Rwanda; the Honorable LEE Ju-young, Deputy-Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, and Chairman of the National Assembly Forum for Africa’s New Era; the Dean of the African Group of Ambassadors, H.E. Carlos Victor BOUNGOU, Ambassador of the Republic of Gabon to the Republic of Korea; and the Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Emma ISUMBINGABO. Amb. DHO Young-shim, Chairperson of ICF and UN SDGs Alumni, had a lunch meeting with Mrs. Mi-kyung LEE, President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency – KOICA, and H.E. Mr. BAN Ki-moon, 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations. This meeting focused on gender equality and women empowerment.
Amb. DHO Young-shim, Chairperson of the International Charity Foundation and UN SDGs Alumni, had a meeting at the headquarters of the Korea International Cooperation Agency – KOICA, with Mrs. Mi-kyung Lee, President of KOICA, and
Dr. Irina BOKOVA, former Director-General of UNESCO. On that occasion, they shared ideas on women and girls’ empowerment. Dr. BOKOVA highlighted that a 12 year-old girl should be able to continue education in a safe school, supported by her family & community, as a measurement of SDG’s success. During her visit to Korea, she give lectures at Hansei University, Seoul National University, Sogang University and the Korean University, on several issues related to the UN SDGs. |
