Amb. Dho Young-shim, Chairperson of UNWTO ST-EP Foundation and UN SDGs Advocate attended the closing ceremony of the XXIII Winter Olympics Games, or PyeongChang 2018, on February 25, 2018.
On that occasion, she had a meeting with Mrs. Beatrice Allen, Member of the National Olympic Committee of Gambia, who was a local partner of the UNWTO ST-EP Foundation for the establishment of two UN SDGs (formerly MDGs) Thank You Small Libraries (TYSL) in Gambia in December 2011, in the Olympafrica Centre and in the Olympic House. Mrs. Allen was introduced by Amb. Dho to H.E. Mr. Do Jongwhan, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Rep. of Korea, and expressed her gratitude for the two UN SDGs while requesting him for further support through providing more books to the TYSL in order to ensure their sustainability.

Rev. Jeongnyeom, Abbot of Woljeongsa Buddhist Temple, hosted a luncheon on Feb. 18, 2018 in honor of H.E. Mrs. Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway and Co-Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) Advocacy Group.

The ceremony was attended by 100 school children and aimed at bringing together the messages of the Olympic spirit, the UN SDGs, and the importance of quality education for all, using a very universal and popular communication tool: UN SDG branded footballs. PM Solberg talked to them about individual and collective responsibilities to build a more peaceful and equal world by the year 2030. Korean President Moon Jae-in held a meeting in Seoul with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg on Feb. 15, 2018 on the occasion of her visit to South Korea for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and discussed ways to bolster cooperation on the Olympic Games and state of affairs on the Korean Peninsula. During the meeting, Norwegian PM Solberg, Co-Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocacy Group, highlighted how sports and education were crucial to promote the achievement of the UN’s 2030 Development Agenda and the 17 UN SDGs. On Feb. 12, 2018, Amb. Dho Young-shim, Chairperson of UNWTO ST-EP Foundation and UN SDGs Advocate had a high-level meeting at the Slovenia House with Ms. Eva Štravs Podlogar, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, and Former Director-General of the Tourism and Internationalization Directorate. Amb. Dho congratulated State Secretary Štravs Podlogar for the newly-inaugurated Slovenia House and discussed opportunities for promoting the relation between Sports, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and Tourism. Amb. Dho Young-shim, Chairperson of UNWTO ST-EP Foundation and UN SDGs Advocate attended the ceremony hosted by Yonsei University in Seoul to award an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Peace Studies to Ms. Irina Bokova, Former Director-General of the UNESCO, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
During the ceremony that took place on Feb. 13, 2018, Ms. Bokova was also named Honorary Dean of Humanities by Dr. Inwon Choue, President of Kyung Hee University. On Feb. 8, 2018, she was a panelist of the Global Engagement & Empowerment Forum on Sustainable Development (GEEF) organized by the Institute for Global Engagement and Empowerment (IGEE) and the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens at Yonsei University. Under the theme “Putting People and Planet at the Center”, prominent figures including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Former UN SG Ban Ki-moon, and Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon participated as speakers to provide insights on the 2030 Development Agenda and best practices towards achieving the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by over 190 world leaders in 2015.
